Biography

Damilola Raji is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice of KENNA, based in Lagos, where he advises multinational corporations, financial institutions, government entities, and high net worth individuals on high stakes commercial litigation, energy and natural resources disputes, banking and financial services litigation, arbitration, and strategic advisory mandates. His practice is distinguished by a sharp focus on commercial outcomes, combining deep technical expertise with a pragmatic, client first approach that includes dispute prevention and early intervention strategies. His experience spans oil and gas, banking and finance, capital markets, telecommunications, infrastructure, real estate, and public enterprise.

In the energy sector, Damilola has represented international oil and gas companies in high profile matters involving oil spill litigation, regulatory compliance, host community disputes, labour and employment issues, and complex contractual claims. Notable engagements include successfully defending a major international oil company in a ₦19 billion oil spill lawsuit, advising on termination procedures in the oil and gas industry to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, and representing a governmental entity in the recovery of over USD 462.7 million derived from alleged oil theft.

In banking and financial services, Raji acts for leading Nigerian banks and financial institutions in high value disputes involving loan recovery, asset repricing, foreign exchange transactions, and regulatory investigations. He successfully defended a major Nigerian bank against litigation challenging the repricing and recovery of over ₦5.2 billion paid for Eligible Bank Assets under the supervision of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). He has provided strategic advisory to a leading financial institution on complex regulatory demands issued by a state infrastructure agency and secured a favourable judgment in a cross border debt recovery matter exceeding USD 2 million for an international client.

His commercial litigation practice encompasses a broad spectrum of complex disputes, including shareholder conflicts, contract enforcement, debt recovery, jurisdictional challenges, and constitutional litigation. He has achieved landmark judgments before the Court of Appeal, successfully struck out high profile matters before the Investment and Securities Tribunal, and obtained judgment in a ₦100 billion fundamental rights dispute for a multinational energy company. He has also advised a client on the enforcement of a foreign judgment exceeding USD 9.6 billion against a Nigerian entity.
