Michael Ajogwu, SAN, Ph.D, FCIArb

Dr. Michael Ajogwu is a Legal Practitioner with fifty-two years of experience and has held the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for twenty-five years. His practice encompasses constitutional law, criminal law, commercial litigation, and arbitration. He has extensive experience in appellate advocacy before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Dr. Ajogwu holds a PhD in Law, a PhD in Political Science, and law degrees from the University of Nigeria.

Career

Dr. Ajogwu began his legal career at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and later served as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice. He acted as Legal Adviser to the Federal Government on customs, excise, and revenue matters for Northern Nigeria. He was appointed the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Enugu State in 1999.

His public service includes membership in the Constituent Assembly that drafted the 1979 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, legislative service as a Member of the House of Representatives, and leadership on national boundary dispute commissions.

Academic Engagements and Publications

Dr. Ajogwu has served as a Senior Lecturer in Evidence Law at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). He is the author of several legal texts, including:

• Command Federalism under the Nigerian Constitution (1986) • Federalism and National Unity in Nigeria (2002)

He has also contributed numerous articles to reputable law journals.
