Biography

Okechukwu Ekweanya is a partner in the Firm’s Corporate and Commercial Law and Technology, Media and Telecommunications Practice Groups. He advises telecom operators, regulatory agencies, oil majors, banks, and other financial institutions on a wide range of corporate, partnership, and international matters, including foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, international trade agreements, and joint ventures.

Okechukwu is recognised for his strategic thinking and his deep understanding of the intricacies involved in both sell-side and buy-side transactions in mergers and acquisitions and international trade agreements. He serves a co-coordinator of the Kenna Pro Bono Committee and is also member of the Governing Council of the Kenna Foundation.

Representative Experience

• Advised and represented a leading Nigerian banking company in a complex US$100 million dispute spanning bankruptcy proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and the courts in Nigeria.

• Acted as Solicitor to the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria and its promoters in the establishment and management of a NGN1 trillion fund for the financing of infrastructure development in Nigeria.

• Advising the buy-side on the successful US$50 million acquisition of a Nigerian Bank.

• Represented a premier Nigerian engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company serving the oil, gas and renewable energy industries in its US$9 million acquisition of the hard and soft Nigerian assets of a global energy service provider.

• Advised and provided representation to a major African telecommunications provider in its successful application for a Payment Service Bank (PSB) licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria
