Biography

Onyemauche Ibezim is a Senior Associate in the Firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice, with significant experience in commercial litigation, regulatory enforcement, banking and financial services disputes, and energy-related litigation. He regularly advises and represents clients in high stakes matters involving complex commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, and enforcement proceedings across Nigeria.

His practice spans both contentious and advisory mandates, with a focus on delivering strategic, commercially sound solutions to clients operating in financial institutions, oil and gas, telecommunications, and real estate sectors. Onyemauche has expertise in appellate advocacy, appearing before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nigeria in matters involving substantial legal and commercial exposure.

Representative Experience

• Advising and representing parties in the 2019 Presidential Election Petition, involving election petition litigation and appellate proceedings before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

• Advising and representing Afreximbank in a cross-border debt recovery and commercial litigation matter.

• Advising and representing an international oil company (IOC) in oil spill disputes, enforcement proceedings, and garnishee proceedings up to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

• Advising and representing the Central Bank of Nigeria in financial services regulatory disputes, including actions challenging the validity and enforcement of BVN Watchlist Guidelines and Circulars.

• Advising and representing the Federal Government of Nigeria in regulatory enforcement and recovery proceedings relating to the value of stolen hydrocarbons, including complex litigation across trial and appellate courts.
