Qudus is a Senior Associate at KENNA and member of the Firm’s Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property, and Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Practice Units. He is well versed in Nigerian vast and dynamic litigation and ADR space, having represented and advised clients in various sectors, particularly in Energy (Oil Spill Litigation), Banking, Labour, Intellectual Property Law and TMT.
Qudus has also published extensively on issues ranging from data privacy and copyright to energy litigation and dispute resolution. His thought leadership extends to delivering presentations and writing on landmark cases like Google v. Oracle; Centre for Oil Pollution Watch v NNPC and contributing to academic texts on emerging legal issues.
As a member of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (SBL), IP Sub-committee, he holds several certifications from the World Intellectual Property Organization and from Joint Programmes with Harvard Law School and World Health Organisation. He is also a member of the International Law Association (ILA) (Nigerian Branch), the African Society of International Law (AfSIL) and Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArB).
• Involved in the legal representation of an IOC on alleged deposit of waste material from oil exploration activities in a claim put at $8.3 Billion as an emerging claim, distinct from typical oil spill.
• Involved in the legal representation of an IOC in gas flaring claim put at $85 Million in one of the pioneering cases brought under the Petroleum Industry Act (passed in 2021) to test the new regime on gas flaring
• Worked on multiple banker-customer disputes stemming from failed FX bids initiated by the Banks, on behalf of major manufacturing companies, following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s return of undelivered FX Forward Contracts in a claim exceeding $7m
• Secured judgment of over 3 billion Naira for a major manufacturing line in a banker-customer dispute that tests a Bank’s obligation to convert a USD denominated facility to Naira in a line with the underlying Bank Facility Letters.
• Involved in host communities dispute involving an IOC over the set up and management of a Trust in a claim of over NGN2.6bn in what examines the extent of a Settlor’s responsibility in the effective administration of a Host Community Trust under the Petroleum Industry Act.
• Successfully defended the Country’s Apex Bank in an action alleging data breach under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
