Overview
The Data Protection Executive Dialogue and the official presentation of the book titled “Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Data Protection in Nigeria” took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Black Diamond Hotel (Onyx Hall), Lagos. The event, convened by Kenna, brought together the regulator, CEOs, board members, legal practitioners, compliance professionals, academics, and stakeholders from across key sectors of the economy. The objective was to interrogate the practical realities of data protection compliance under Nigeria’s Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 and the General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID) 2025, while also providing a platform to unveil a comprehensive intellectual resource on data protection law. The Dialogue commenced with a warm welcome from the compere, Jessica Obodo-Elue, who underscored the timeliness of the gathering, given that the GAID would become effective the very next day. The audience was reminded that Nigeria’s digital transformation, coupled with its regulatory reforms, made this Dialogue both urgent and necessary.
