On Friday, August 7, 2026, KENNA, in collaboration with 1952 Art Gallery, hosted the Art & Law Session-a pro bono legal education initiative designed to equip Nigerian creatives with the knowledge and tools to protect their creative work.
Presented by KENNA Lawyers, Chiamaka Anakua and Okenna Onyelu, the two-part session explored Intellectual Property foundations: copyright, trademarks, patents, and designs, alongside Contracts and Commercial Practice, covering licensing, AI, social media, and enforcement. From the automatic protection copyright affords upon creation to the nuances of economic and moral rights, the session gave creatives a clear understanding of how the law works in their favour and why it matters.
The session reinforced a truth every creative should remember: your creativity is your livelihood, and legal knowledge is your protection. Without written agreements and an awareness of intellectual property rights, creatives leave their work exposed to unauthorised use, exploitation, and loss. KENNA remains committed to empowering Nigeria's creative community through access to legal education and practical guidance, ensuring that the value of their work is recognised, protected, and preserved.
